Position Overview
The Executive Director is appointed by the Alpha Sigma Nu, Inc. Board of Directors and is responsible to the Board through its President, who is the chief executive officer of the society.  The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the society’s consistent achievement of its mission, purpose, and financial objectives. The Executive Director shall assist the Board officers in conducting the affairs of the society and in implementing decisions of the Board, Executive Committee, Board identified committees, and the delegates to the Triennial Conferences.
The Executive Director will:
  • Provide visionary and exemplary leadership of the society.
  • Implement the strategic goals and objectives of the society.
  • With the Board president, enable the Board to fulfill its governance function.
  • Give direction toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that all actions and decisions of the society reflect the values of Alpha Sigma Nu and Jesuit higher education.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1.       Assures that the Society has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission
2.       Provides leadership in developing mission focused program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff
3.       Maintains current knowledge of Jesuit mission and projects as well as the missions, status, and leadership of our member institutions
4.       Manages society actions and activities in accordance with Alpha Sigma Nu Bylaws and policies
5.       Prepares and distributes agenda and support materials for meetings of the Board, Executive Committee, and the Investment Committee
6.       Executes all policies approved by the Board of Directors
7.       Is responsible for the following financial affairs of the society:  banking, preparation of the annual budget, maintaining records of investments and bookkeeping, and providing financial reports requested by the Executive Committee and Board
8.       Is responsible for adhering to state regulations regarding fundraising compliance
9.       Oversees the Annual Sustaining Fund Appeal to ASN members
10.     Is responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel
11.     Effectively leads and manages the staff and maintains positive staff morale and office culture to foster a climate of collaboration and continuous improvement
12.     Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations
13.     Organizes and supervises the staff, including position assignments and appropriate delegation of authority to best enable Alpha Sigma Nu to fulfill its objectives
14.     Mentors staff members and provides opportunities and feedback to enable them to excel at their work
15.     Is responsible for the training and communications with Chapter presidents in collaboration with the student Board members
16.     With the International Committee, strategizes and executes the addition of new Alpha Sigma Nu chapters
17.     With the Director of Communications and Operations, assures the appropriate and strategic use of social media accounts
18.     With the Director of Communications and Operations, is responsible for the overall content, maintenance, and effectiveness of the Alpha Sigma Nu website
19.     Is responsible for the production and distribution of the Alpha Sigma Nu magazine
20.     Has as a goal the encouragement of ASN alumni to see membership as a lifetime commitment to the society’s values
21.     Ensures that annual inductions occur at the 32 member institutions in accordance with the Bylaws of Alpha Sigma Nu, Inc.
22.     Reports to the Board annually on inductions
23.     Marshals funds to ensure that scholarship checks are sent to 32 member institutions
24.     Plans and executes the Triennial Conference and student Leadership Summits
25.     Acts as the face of Alpha Sigma Nu, representing the Society at inductions as well to AJCUACHSIAJU, the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, and the leadership of member Jesuit institutions
26.     Leads the annual review of Chapter status and report to the Board of Directors
27.     Assists in the annual review of Alumni Clubs with report to the Board of Directors
28.     Oversees the training and communications with Chapter Advisers
29.     Is responsible for the training and communications with Chapter presidents in collaboration with the student Board members
30.     Oversees the production and distribution of the Alpha Sigma Nu e-newsletter
31.     Communicates with Chapter Advisers, Board members and Chapter and Club presidents on society business
32.     Makes revisions as deemed necessary in official documents of the society and society brochures
33.     Oversees communications to new inductees
34.     Reviews the Induction Ritual
35.     Represents the society at inductions
36.     Participates with the Nominating Committee in identifying potential ASN leaders
37.     Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the honor society and Jesuit higher education fields
38.     Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
  • A master’s degree in education, non-profit management, or related field required
  • Five to ten years’ experience successfully serving in a management position, preferably at the executive level in higher education, non-profit or educational organizations
  • Possess excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills
  • Public speaking skills to serve as the face of an organization
  • Have demonstrated experience with financial budgeting
  • Have demonstrated success in supervising staff
  • Be proficient in the use of information technology
  • Familiarity or experience with institutions of higher education
  • The work environment is typical of an office setting and includes meetings at external locations.
  • The Executive Director works from the Alpha Sigma Nu Office on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
