JOB DESCRIPTION:
The University Chaplain is responsible for collaborating with colleagues across campus to implement culturally contextualized faith formation ministries and pastoral care to specific student cohorts, including Hispanic, Black, Indigenous and other students of color and/or others who hold marginalized identities. In collaboration with the University Ministry Team, the University Chaplain is responsible for ministry to USD undergraduate and graduate students that reflects and fosters the Catholic mission and identity of the university.
The primary duties include liturgical and Sacramental ministries, pastoral accompaniment, spiritual direction, and collaboration with the University Ministry team to support the spiritual development of USD community members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Daily and weekly liturgical and Sacramental ministries;
- Assist in planning liturgical celebrations;
- Pastoral counseling and spiritual direction of USD students and employees;
- Assisting with retreats with emphasis on liturgy and sacraments;
- Assisting with other University Ministry programs and events;
- Assisting with special liturgical and other programs during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
- Other duties may include:
- Other ministry initiatives that align with the candidates gifts and passion for ministry.
- Service on University-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Applicants should be an ordained Catholic priest.
- Applications should be able to demonstrate that they are in good standing with their local Ordinary and/or their Religious Superior.
- Masters of Divinity Degree or a Master of Arts Degree in a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of Campus Ministry experience or five (5) years of ministry experience in pastoral ministry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Rigorous theological education and ability to communicate theological, catechetical, and spiritual concepts to undergraduate and graduate students.
- An MDiv, MTS or equivalent experience.
- A robust understanding of the developmental and spiritual needs of emerging adults
- An approach to ministry that is trauma informed
- Ability to collaborate effectively and creatively as a member of a team.
- Sufficient initiative and confidence to work individually.
- Demonstrated proficiency with facilitating group discussions, group reflections, and faith sharing group activities.
- Skill in planning and coordinating retreat programs and other reflection activities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, mentor, and support teams of student leaders.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing service and justice experiences that lead students to theological reflection and vocational discernment.
- Skill in creating and delivering spiritual growth activities for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Extensive knowledge of Catholic faith and practice.
- Ability to communicate the Catholic faith through formal programs and informal relational settings.
- Thorough knowledge of student development issues.
- Ability to support and guide students in issues related to the integration of their faith.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Fluency in Spanish and ability to offer bilingual liturgies
- A robust understanding of the cultural dynamics and spiritual needs of the Latine/Hispanic community
- At least five (5) years of professional Campus Ministry experience in a university setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate in Spanish, including during the Sacraments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive University vehicles

Personal Computer, Fax machine, Telephone, Copier, Printer, University van.
BACKGROUND CHECK:

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience; excellent benefits. On campus housing can be arranged through residential ministry.
