Director of Liturgy – St. Anthony Shrine, Boston
Part-Time (10–20 hours/week, including weekends)
$35–$38/hour

St. Anthony Shrine, the “Church on Arch Street,” is a prophetic Franciscan Catholic community welcoming all people through prayer and outreach. We are currently seeking a Director of Liturgy to join our team in this dynamic and front-facing role.

About the Role:
As Director of Liturgy, you will collaborate with Franciscan Friar priests (Presiders), direct lay Worship Ministers (volunteers), and manage paid sacristans. You will coordinate liturgical celebrations throughout the year, ensure smooth execution of worship events, and serve as a vital liaison between staff, volunteers, and the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate public liturgies and suggest improvements.

  • Creatively organize special liturgies and seasonal services.

  • Manage the weekly schedule and ongoing formation of lay Worship Ministers and sacristans.

  • Recruit, train, and schedule new lectors and Eucharistic Ministers.

  • Form and guide a new Worship Committee to support liturgical ministry.

  • Ensure Mass intentions and announcements are prepared and communicated.

  • Direct volunteers in setting up liturgical decorations and coordinate resources.

  • Serve as the point of contact for communications about liturgical schedules and services.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Music and other staff to ensure seamless worship experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Sophisticated understanding of Catholic liturgy.

  • Experience in a similar role at a Catholic church and/or progress toward a degree in Theology, Ministry, or a related field.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Additional Requirements:

  • Comfortable working in a non-profit, religious environment.

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs.
