1. Develop and implement ongoing programs focused on providing students with opportunities to encounter Christ amidst community, through integrated catechesis, Catholic, Christian witness, and prayer.
A. Direct the Ignite program, including:
a. Provide formation for Ignite student team members. Responsible for the supervision of student employees, which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc.
b. Select speakers, refine program format, menu selection, and incorporation of prayer elements.
B. Develop other opportunities for students to gather in community and grow in Catholic faith.
2. Responsible for the Hall Ministry program.
A. Collaboratively develop with the Office of Residence Life a comprehensive vision, inclusive of programmatic offerings, for Hall Ministry.
B. Responsible for the supervision of staff (hall ministers), which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc.
C. Meet monthly with Office of Residence Life liaison to foster a collaborative spirit between offices.
D. Facilitate monthly hall ministry meetings, summer training, and other ministry related formation sessions for residential professional staff.
E. Coordinate residence hall chapel facility needs in collaboration with the Campus Ministry Liturgy Team.
3. Sorority & Fraternity Support.
A. Build relationships with fraternities and sororities, particularly member chapters of Interfraternity Council and National Panhellenic Conference and serve as Campus Ministry’s primary pastoral resource to students active in these organizations.
B. Partner with the Division of Belonging & Student Affairs personnel who oversee fraternity and sorority life to provide pastoral support to students.
C. Develop peer ministry led outreach initiatives for members of fraternities and sororities.
D. Coordinate pastoral outreach to members of sororities and fraternities, such as Bible studies, retreats, reflections, liturgies, and prayer.
4. Graduate Students.
A. Establish pastoral outreach to graduate students, including offering Small Christian Community Groups, retreat support, and serving as a liaison to the Graduate Student Organization, the Graduate School, and professional programs, such as the Law School, Dental School, and Physician Assistant program.
5. Develop Small Christian Community Groups (e.g., Caminos, Bible Studies, Faith Sharing groups, etc.) that are grounded in the Spiritual Exercises.
A. Recruit, select, train, and supervise group facilitators.
B. Provide a variety of formats for small groups to utilize through various seasons of the academic and liturgical years.
C. Coordinate annual sign-ups.
6. Pilgrimages and International Immersion Opportunities. Develop and coordinate spiritual pilgrimage opportunities and international immersion experiences representative of the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission, such as
A. Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (Fall Semester)
B. World Youth Day, Magis, Etc. (Summer)
C. Ignatian Sites in Spain, Other International Sites (e.g., Camino de Santiago, Rome, El Salvador, Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc.)
D. Other Catholic formation, ecumenical, and/or Ignatian justice immersions.
7. Represent and guide the Campus Ministry office in the absence of the director and offer emergency response when necessary.
8. As a member of the Campus Ministry team, this person will:
A. Meet with leader regularly.
B. Serve as resource to other Campus Ministry staff. Ensure all members are being guided to the same mission and strategy.
C. Be responsible for sharing best practices among team members.
D. Assess success and develop recommendations to improve the programs. Report results to the leadership team and maintain appropriate documentation.
E. Be available for pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, hospital ministry and crisis situations. This includes participation in the emergency phone schedule.
F. Be responsible for budget and reporting of expenses for the pilgrimages and international immersion opportunities. Work with the Director to develop and track budget for the campus ministry area.
G. Participate in team meetings, planning, retreats and committee work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology or related field to this position
- Five years’ experience in campus ministry or related field
- Supervisory experience
- An understanding of Ignatian Spirituality
- Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability and deep desire to work in collaboration with others
- Familiarity with issues and trends among young adults, particularly faith concerns
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity or Pastoral Ministry or related field
- Experience working with students from across a variety of religious and cultural traditions as well as students who are religiously unaffiliated
