The Longing for Home: The Prophetic Witness of Henri Nouwen in a Wounded World Conference, held May 14–16 in Toronto, invites participants into a rich, transformative encounter with the life, thought, and enduring spiritual legacy of Nouwen. Gathering scholars, pastors, spiritual directors, artists, and seekers from around the world, this conference offers a rare space for deep reflection, thoughtful dialogue, and embodied spiritual practice.

At the heart of the conference are four keynote addresses from internationally respected voices: Michael W. Higgins, Carlos Thompson, Terry LeBlanc, and Michael Blair. Together, they will explore Nouwen’s work through diverse lenses—spiritual theology, pastoral leadership, Indigenous wisdom, and public faith—bringing fresh insight to Nouwen’s timeless call to vulnerability, compassion, and belovedness.

The conference also features the premier viewing of a powerful new documentary on Henri Nouwen, offering intimate perspectives on his life and influence, alongside a moving theatrical presentation that brings Nouwen’s story to life through word and performance. These creative offerings invite participants not only to learn about Nouwen, but to experience his spirituality in ways that engage heart, mind, and imagination.

Woven throughout are moments of contemplative worship, guided spiritual practices, and shared prayer—creating space to slow down, listen deeply, and attend to the movements of the Spirit. More than 25 breakout and academic sessions provide opportunities to engage Nouwen’s writings in practical, pastoral, scholarly, and personal contexts, allowing participants to tailor their experience to their own vocational and spiritual interests.

Set within the historic and welcoming environment of St. Michael’s College, this Conference offers an invitation—to reflection, renewal, and a deeper living of the spirituality Henri Nouwen so generously shared with the world.
